What does the Etsy Fee Calculator do?
It models one Etsy order from start to finish:
Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee on everything the buyer paid, shipping included.
The Etsy Payments processing fee for your country: a percentage of the order plus a fixed fee per order.
The Regulatory Operating Fee in the five countries that charge one.
Optional: the 0.20 USD listing fee per item sold, and an Offsite Ads fee of 12% or 15%.
Your own item and shipping costs, then your profit and profit margin.
It runs in your browser. The only thing the page loads is the day's exchange rates. These convert the 0.20 USD listing fee and the 100 USD Offsite Ads cap into your currency.
How do I use the Etsy Fee Calculator?
Click your seller country's flag above the calculator. The page opens with the United States selected.
The flags have no labels. The Calculating for line below them shows which country is selected.
Under Pricing, enter your Selling Price (1) and the Shipping Price the buyer pays (2).
Under Expenses, enter your Item Cost (3) and your Shipping Cost (4).
Optionally, switch on Include Listing Fee (1) and choose an Offsite Ads Fee (2): None, 12% or 15%.
Read the Profit-Loss card on the right.
â There is no Calculate button. The card updates every time you type or change a setting.
Field | What to enter |
Selling Price | The price of one item. This is the only required field. It is outlined in orange while empty. |
Shipping Price | What the buyer pays for shipping. Etsy charges its fees on this too. |
Item Cost | What the item cost you. |
Shipping Cost | What shipping costs you. |
Quantity | The number of items in one order (optional). |

What does each result row mean?
Row | What it shows |
Revenue | Everything the buyer paid: the items after any discount, plus shipping |
Quantity, Discounted, Original Price | The items in the order, the money the discount took off, and the price without it. Shown only with a quantity above 1 or a discount. |
Item Cost | Your item cost multiplied by the quantity |
Listing Fee | 0.20 USD per item sold, in your currency. Shown only when Include Listing Fee is on. |
Transaction Fee | 6.5% of Revenue |
Processing Fee | Your country's Etsy Payments percentage of Revenue plus the fixed fee per order |
Regulatory Fee | The Regulatory Operating Fee. Shown only for the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Italy and Spain. |
Shipping Cost | Your shipping cost multiplied by the quantity |
Offsite Ads | 12% or 15% of Revenue, up to 100 USD per order. Shown only when Offsite Ads Fee is not None. |
Total Expense | All fees and costs added together |
Profit Margin | Profit as a percentage of Revenue |
PROFIT | Revenue minus Total Expense. It turns negative on a loss. |
A worked example: a 40.00 item with 5.00 shipping
A United States shop sells one item for 40.00, and the buyer pays 5.00 for shipping. The item cost 12.00 and shipping costs 4.00. These are the figures from the live calculator:
Row | Amount |
Revenue | 45.00 (40.00 item + 5.00 buyer shipping) |
Item Cost | 12.00 |
Transaction Fee | 2.93 (6.5% of 45.00) |
Processing Fee | 1.60 (3% of 45.00 + 0.25) |
Shipping Cost | 4.00 |
Total Expense | 20.53 |
PROFIT | 24.48 |
Profit Margin | 54.39% (24.48 out of 45.00) |
Here is what each optional setting does to the same sale:
Nothing (the base sale): profit 24.48, margin 54.39%.
Include Listing Fee adds 0.20: profit 24.28, margin 53.94%.
Then Offsite Ads Fee 15% adds 6.75: profit 17.52, margin 38.94%.
Then Quantity 3 and Discount 10%: Revenue 123.00, Total Expense 78.99, profit 44.02, margin 35.78%.
â ď¸ On this sale, a 15% Offsite Ads fee (6.75) costs more than the transaction and processing fees together (4.53). Etsy only charges it when the sale came from one of its ads, so treat it as your worst case.
The Profit Margin is a share of everything the buyer paid, shipping included. It is not a markup on your item cost.
How do the eight seller countries differ?
The 6.5% transaction fee and the 0.20 USD listing fee are the same everywhere. The processing fee and the Regulatory Operating Fee change with the country:
Seller country | Processing fee ¡ Regulatory fee |
United States | 3% + $0.25 per order ¡ none |
United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 per order ¡ 0.32% |
Canada | 3% + $0.25 per order ¡ 1.15% |
Australia | 3% + $0.25 per order ¡ none |
Germany | 4% + âŹ0.30 per order ¡ none |
France | 4% + âŹ0.30 per order ¡ 0.47% |
Italy | 4% + âŹ0.30 per order ¡ 0.32% |
Spain | 4% + âŹ0.30 per order ¡ 0.72% |
Your seller country is where your Etsy shop is registered, not where the buyer lives.
Click the United Kingdom flag with the three-item order still filled in:
Revenue stays 123.00. The Processing Fee rises from 3.94 to 5.12, and a Regulatory Fee row of 0.39 appears:
The listing fee is converted at the day's exchange rate (about 0.45), so the UK profit comes to about 42.60. The last cent can change from day to day.
Switching country does not convert your numbers: 40.00 dollars becomes 40.00 pounds, and only the symbol changes.
Which languages does the calculator support?
The flag also sets the page language. United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia show English. Germany, France, Italy and Spain show German, French, Italian and Spanish. The math is the same in every language.
Two things Etsy sellers miss
Etsy's fees include shipping
The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on everything the buyer paid. On a 40.00 item with 5.00 shipping, that is 6.5% of 45.00, or 2.93, not 2.60. The processing fee and the Regulatory Operating Fee are charged the same way. So if you charge the buyer more for shipping, your fees go up too.
A discount never comes off shipping
Three items at 40.00 with 10% off take 12.00 off the 120.00 of items. The 15.00 of buyer shipping stays the same, so Revenue is 123.00, not 121.50.
Offsite Ads: is my rate 12% or 15%?
Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee when a buyer comes to your listing from an ad Etsy placed on another site.
15% if your shop made under 10,000 USD in the last 12 months.
12% if it made more.
None for a sale that did not come from an Etsy ad. Most sales are like this.
Both rates are capped at 100 USD per order, converted to your currency. On the 45.00 example, 15% adds 6.75. On the 123.00 order, it adds 18.45.
How do quantity and multi-buy discounts work?
The Multi Discount card covers one order with several units of the same item. Enter Quantity (1) and Discount (2):
Items: 40.00 Ă 3 = 120.00, minus 10% = 108.00.
Shipping: 5.00 Ă 3 = 15.00, with no discount.
Revenue: 108.00 + 15.00 = 123.00.
Item and shipping costs are multiplied by 3: 36.00 and 12.00.
The listing fee is charged per item: 0.20 USD Ă 3 = 0.60.
The fixed part of the processing fee is charged once per order: 3% of 123.00 + 0.25 = 3.94.
Leave both fields empty for a single item at full price.
What does the Etsy Fee Calculator not do?
It does not include sales tax or VAT. Treat the profit as before tax.
It does not convert currencies.
It does not connect to your Etsy shop or read your orders. You type every number yourself.
It does not include Etsy Plus, on-site Etsy Ads budgets, payout currency conversion fees or shipping labels.
It only covers the eight countries on the flag row.
It does not save your numbers. Reloading the page clears them.
Troubleshooting
It shows a loss before I finish typing
If you enter costs before the selling price, Revenue is 0.00 and the costs show as a loss. For example, item cost 12.00 and shipping cost 4.00 with no price show -16.00. Enter the selling price and the numbers update.
The rows are one cent off the profit
Each row is rounded on its own, but Profit uses the exact figures. The transaction fee in the example is really 2.925, so it shows as 2.93. That makes 45.00 minus 20.53 equal 24.47, while PROFIT shows 24.48. The PROFIT figure is the exact one.
Some labels stay in English on other languages
On the German, French, Italian and Spanish pages, the Include Listing Fee label and the None option in the Offsite Ads list stay in English. Both work as normal.
A fractional quantity was rounded
Quantity is rounded to a whole number, so 2.6 counts as 3. A discount above 100% counts as 100%.
FAQ
Is the Etsy Fee Calculator free?
Yes. You don't need an account or a sign-in, and what you type stays in your browser.
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
Etsy takes 6.5% of the order total plus the processing fee for your country (3% + 0.25 in the United States). In some countries it also adds the Regulatory Operating Fee, plus the listing fee and Offsite Ads when they apply. On the 45.00 example, the fees before optional ones come to 4.53.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The transaction fee, the processing fee and the Regulatory Operating Fee all include the shipping the buyer pays.
Can I use it if I sell outside the eight countries?
The 6.5% transaction fee is still correct, but the processing fee and the Regulatory Fee rows will not match your country.
